Don't dump 'losers'

The Canton Repository

PIKE TWP - The Countywide landfill is paying the state $250,000 that will benefit the area around the Pike Township facility. Residents' wish list of projects is long. Why let the list go to waste after the winning ideas are chosen?

Countywide is paying $250,000 to a community fund as one of its penalties for violating environmental rules. Ideas for spending the money can be sent to the EPA until Sept. 19. So far, as The Rep reported Friday, the ideas have included upgrading baseball facilities, creating rest areas at parks, improving the Zoar Wetland Arboretum, building a skate park and supporting the "Junket II" art show.

Here's an opportunity for the community to set priorities and work to turn some of the "losers" into realities. Now, who will take the lead in bringing some of this pie in the sky down to Earth?
